VideoAI Feedback FAQ

Why AI Feedback?

After nearly a decade of helping schools and organizations prepare their users for job interviews, we realized we could do more.

Users have told us they want immediate feedback on how to improve their interview skills. However, we know career counselors have limited time to spend with each individual - and that they’d rather spend time on meaningful coaching than on counting ums and uhs.

Meanwhile, more and more companies are using AI to screen candidates in video interviews. We think it’s only fair to empower job seekers by giving them access to the same AI technology so they know how they’ll be evaluated. This is exactly why we developed our new AI Feedback tool.

How do you address the potential bias built into your tool?

We acknowledge how bias (conscious and unconscious) can play a role in both AI and interviewers’ perceptions of the behaviors assessed by AI tools. Our goal is to offer the user some transparency around how they may be perceived by AI screening tools -- and many human interviewers as well. Our AI tool is designed to educate, not to discriminate.

How closely does the Big Interview AI algorithm/bot follow that of algorithms used by video interview tools used for hiring?

Many people are curious how our technology compares to our competitors or to video interview hiring tools. The simple answer is that these algorithms are proprietary, so there is no way for us to know how we compare to competitors or how we compare to video interview hiring tools. Our aim is to educate users on how they might be evaluated by such tools and to improve their interview skills, so we do target the most commonly used criteria for video interviews. While there will be a lot of overlap in these criteria, the algorithms vary from tool to tool.

What words influence the “power word” score?

The words you use make a big difference in how you are perceived! Positive, confident language will present you as a more capable and engaging candidate. That's why we created our power word score, based on our proprietary database of words that are associated with confidence, enthusiasm, initiative, and strategic thinking. We are constantly adding to this database to ensure it includes words relevant to all of our users’ career paths. You can see the full list of power words in your action plan.

Is the AI algorithm customized for different industry practice questions in Big Interview?

While we don’t currently customize AI feedback according to industry, we hope to make this improvement in future versions of our tool.

How does your technology account for atypical speech patterns, eye contact, etc.?

The AI feedback tool will identify certain speech and eye contact patterns that vary significantly from what is typically perceived as confident and engaging in an interview setting. For example, the AI tool will identify longer-than-typical pauses, a distractingly fast or slow rate of speech, etc.

Our feedback and action plan will provide users with information about these elements and tips for adjusting if desired. We are not trying to push everyone to communicate in the same way, just helping people identity behaviors they may not be aware of. Again, our technology is not built to evaluate, but to educate and inform.

I don't see the option to get AI Feedback. How can I use this feature?

AI is an optional feature for schools and organizations, so make sure your organization has AI enabled. If you still don't see where to find your feedback, reach out to support@biginterview.com.

What do the medals (bronze, silver, and gold) mean?

Here is a general breakdown of the medals. You’ll find the most helpful information about your score by reviewing your Action Plan and score breakdown. For admin users, you can find the raw score for each user in the users tab/in the assignments area.

GOLD
Excellent! According to our AI, the user answered this question very well. Review the score breakdown by category to learn more about what the user seems to be doing well -- and identify if there are any small improvements that could be made. Also take a look to see if there are any alerts to review -- we provide alerts on some behaviors that don’t factor into the total score but may need attention.

SILVER
Good. According to our AI, the user is doing well in some areas, but could make improvements in others. Find more information by reviewing the category scores to learn more about what the user seems to be doing well -- and where our AI raised red flags. We also provide alerts on some behaviors that don’t factor into the total score but may need attention. We recommend repeated practice to improve in all areas.

BRONZE
Needs improvement. According to our AI, this user needs to make improvements in at least one important area. Find more information by reviewing the category scores to see if any areas require serious attention. We also provide alerts on some behaviors that don’t factor into the total score but may need attention. Practice makes perfect. Often, scores will improve as the user gets more comfortable with the question and the interview format in general.
